Welcome to Aletsch Bahnen

Aletsch Bahnen AG (ABAG) is one of the biggest cable-car companies in Switzerland. Our sports lifts connect the mountain communities of Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp with each other and our feeder lifts connect the villages with the valley stations in Mörel, Bettmeralp valley and Fiesch. As an important employer and crucial economic factor in the region, we are conscious of the responsibility we bear and are constantly developing our company with a view to the future. Find out more about our projects, structures and the issues we face.

Committed to the future

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

Aletsch Bahnen AG is fully committed to a sustainable future and demonstrates that economic success and environmental protection can go hand in hand.

Issues at a glance

Our sustainability strategy aligns with the Swiss Cable Car Association and balances nature’s needs with those of our guests. Find out more about the five areas:

  • Climate change and energy
  • Water and water management
  • Landscape, biodiversity and building culture
  • Social responsibility
  • Regional added value

Climate change and energy

Aletsch Bahnen AG promotes public transport around the completely car-free area. We offer incentives for using public transport and guarantee a seamless connection to the mountain railways. The ongoing modernisation of our lift facilities helps to reduce CO2, and the use of photovoltaics is a key component of our future strategy.

Water and water management

Aletsch Bahnen AG obtains 100% of its electricity from regional hydropower and draws all water for snowmaking from local lakes in the ski area, thus minimising transport routes and environmental impact. The ongoing modernisation of our snowmaking infrastructure makes for additional efficiency gains.

Landscape, biodiversity and building culture

Aletsch Bahnen AG is committed to the protection of biodiversity through consistent renaturalisation and environmental construction monitoring. We run initiatives in the ski area to raise public awareness of climate change and its impact on nature. In addition, we invest a significant proportion of our company earnings in refurbishments and further developments.

Social responsibility

Aletsch Bahnen AG supports young people through training programmes. The majority of our staff come from the region, which strengthens the local economy. We also support numerous local institutions, associations and cultural events. It is especially important to us to promote skiing among kids and teens.

Regional added value

Aletsch Bahnen AG promotes tourism and economic development. We not only operate feeder and sports lifts, but also catering establishments and accommodation. The cable cars are also an important and indispensable economic driver, as every guest transported in the area also generates income for other tourism providers.
