Thrilling traverses, vertical passages and view points:  this medium-difficulty via ferrata is a unique experience requiring sure-footedness, a head for heights and physical fitness.

The starting point of this tour is the mountain station of the Eggishorn cable car. Hike downhill to the Elsenlücke (ca. 30 mins) and continue to the start of the via ferrata. The route, which can also be tackled by those with relatively little via ferrata experience, leads across easy-to-grip surfaces and impressive rock formations. There are wonderful views of the sunny plateau throughout. Sturdy iron rungs make steep passages more manageable, while cables and railings mean you’re well secured even in the easier sections. Highlights include a Nepalese bridge (40m), a suspension bridge (30m) and a zip line (30m). The latter can only be tackled with a mountain guide, but it’s possible to skip it. After two hours of climbing and 305 metres of altitude difference, you’ll find yourself back at the starting point.

Difficulty: easy to medium (K2 – K3), no overhanging sections.
Tip: There’s an emergency exit after the first hour of climbing, just in case you feel like breaking off the tour..

Status report: You can always check the status report to see if the via ferrata is open.

Safety guidelines

Summer sports report

Weather conditions: before setting off to tackle a via ferrata, it is important to check the weather forecast. Bad conditions can make climbing dangerous – particularly in stormy weather.

Rockfalls: because of the risk of falling rocks – usually caused by climbers higher up or by animals – all climbers are strongly advised to wear a helmet.

Safety: always leave sufficient distance between yourself and the climber ahead. There should never be more than one person between two anchor points.
