Fabulous skiing fun for young and old: wide, sunny slopes, the best bits of the Gletschi Experience and detours to the view points combine to make this panoramic ski tour a real highlight.

The family-friendly circular ski tour takes you through the entire Aletsch Arena and follows in the footsteps of Gletschi, the tiny glacier flea: skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, mini boardercross, the Family Funslope and more – wherever the tiny glacier flea has fun in the ski area, that’s where the Gletschi Tour takes you. What’s more, it includes the view points – ideal for a breather between descents, affording stunning views of the Aletsch Glacier or the Valais mountains. In between, there’s plenty of downhill fun to be had on the wide, sunny slopes of Aletsch Arena’s sun-drenched plateau, and it’s easy skiing for young and old. The tour sets off from Riederalp, although Bettmeralp or Fiescheralp can be chosen as the starting point instead. The Gletschi Tour is marked throughout with blue trail signs with the Gletschi symbol. It’s up to you how you complete the tour: either do it all on one day, or tackle various individual stages while having fun at the Gletschi's Experience stations in between.

Directions

The ski circuit starts at the chairlift Hohfluh on Riederalp. This will take you up to the viewpoint Hohfluh, where the first descent is waiting for you: First we head west (slopes 6a,7 and 4a), down to the chairlift Riederfurka. This will take you up to Riederfurka. The first Gletschi is already waiting for you at the Riederfurka restaurant. Next destination is the valley station of the glacier lift Moosfluh where you can find the second Gletschi (slopes 3a, 8a and 8b). After the ascent, you can enjoy the magnificent view at viewpoint Moosfluh before tackling the next descent. This time it's eastward - to Bettmeralp (slopes 12a, 12b and 41a), or more precisely to the trainer lift there. It takes you so far up that you can easily reach the Wurzenbord chairlift with a run-up. From the top station you continue to the chairlift Schönbiel and up with it. At the bottom station you will find another Gletschi (slopes 50 and 51). You will find the fourth Gletschi if you now head towards the Bettmerhorn valley station (slopes 45, 46a and 46), and take the gondola lift to the next viewpoint on the Bettmerhorn. There you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Valais mountains and the Matterhorn. Then enjoy the descent (slopes 52, 55, 58 and 71) towards Fiescheralp. Take the stirrup lift there and then swing to the Flesch chairlift. The fifth Gletschi is located at the bottom station. Once at the top, you can look forward to a long and fast downhill run (slopes 74 and 75). Afterwards, take the Flesch chairlift once again and then head west again from the top station (slopes 71, 59, 47a and 46): At the end of piste 47a is the Bättmerhitta, where you will also find the last Gletschi. Then continue on piste 46 with the destination Zauberteppich on Bettmeralp, so you have enough momentum to get to the Blausee chairlift (piste 42). It will take you to the starting point for your descent to the valley station of the Gletscherbahn Moosfluh (slopes 18 and 12). Take the combined lift up to the Viewpoint Moosfluh again and then look forward to the last downhill stage of the Gletschi Tour, down to Riederalp (slopes 12a, 13 and 10).

The succession can be adapted as desired. The tour can be started from Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp.

Take Kantonsstrasse 19 to the Mörel-Filet exit, then follow signs for the parking facilities. Proceed on foot to the Riederalp cable car (Aletsch Bahnen AG), which takes you up to Riederalp.

Limited parking spaces (charges apply) at Mörel-Filet station. Further parking options are signposted.

Large pay multi-storey car parks at the entrance to Mörel-Filet and in the village centre.

By train from Brig or Oberwald to Mörel-Filet, then on foot to the Riederalp cable car (Aletsch Bahnen AG). Take the cable car up to Riederalp.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

If you want to do the entire Gletschi Tour in a single day with optimum skiing conditions, you should set by off 10:00 at the latest.

Safety guidelines

Visitors remaining on the slopes outside the opening hours of the ski area risk life and limb due to slope-grooming operations and the production of artificial snow. You should complete your last downhill run no later than 15:30 to reach the mountain villages of Riederalp, Bettmeralp or Fiescheralp in good time.

In the early and late season and in bad weather conditions, some lifts or slopes may remain closed. Information on the facilities and slopes in the Aletsch Arena can be found in the winter sports report.
